How Does a Wye Reversing Tracks Work?
The main idea behind being able to work a reversing track is to know how to switch the polarity of the reversing section and bring it in accordance with that of the main line.
The most common way to do this is to use a double-pole-double-throw (DPDT) switch to connect the source of power to an isolated section of the track.
When dealing with Wye reversing tracks, care needs to be taken to ensure that the length of the isolated track is longer than the largest consist that has to pass through it. This is done to avoid a short.
